A Kist Built for Standing

The Ubukhosi Kist takes its name from status itself. Ubukhosi means chieftaincy, the standing a person or a piece holds in a room without needing to ask for it. This is the most detailed kist in the range, and every part of it is built to be looked at closely, not just glanced past.

It carries the weight of the range’s full construction quality, then adds to it. Where other kists in the range pick one or two details to lead with, this one brings them together.

Solid Wood, Turned by Hand

Each kist is built from solid timber, panel by panel, then finished in a deep espresso tone. Turned wood posts stand at all four corners, shaped on a lathe rather than left square, a joinery detail that does not appear anywhere else in the range. It is a slower way to build a corner, and it shows.

Corners are reinforced, not just glued, so the kist holds its shape under daily use for years, the same standard every kist in the range is built to.

Hide, Brass, and Detail

The padded lid is upholstered in leather with a genuine cowhide centre stripe, the same pairing used on the Isiko Kist. At the base of the front face, two further panels are inset with genuine cowhide, bordered in a hand-stitched rope trim, flanking a plain wood centre panel.

The hardware matches the level of detail elsewhere. An ornate cast brass plate secures the lid at the front, and matching brass drop handles sit on each side, cast rather than stamped. Nothing here is a plain fitting bolted on for show. Every piece of brass on this kist is shaped to be seen.

Built to Travel Through Generations

The Ubukhosi Kist is sealed against everyday knocks and finished to the same standard as the rest of the range, built to hold what a family chooses to keep safe and be handed down when the time comes.

Wipe the wood down with a dry or lightly damp cloth. Treat the hide panels the way you would any natural hide, wiped clean rather than scrubbed, and kept out of direct, harsh sunlight. Built the slow way, with more detail than any other kist in the range, it is made to still be standing well after the room around it has changed.
